As a researcher at KI you’re the owner of your own inventions and can develop them together with anyone you choose. KIAB specializes in Life Science and develops researcher inventions in order to establish a company or to license the invention to one or more existing companies.

If you’re employed by Landstinget, it is Landstinget that owns the invention. Even so, you are welcome to contact us as we have considerable experience in this type of scenario.

Contact someone who works with invention development within Life Science, but make sure you have a confidentiality agreement. KIAB always operates under confidentiality, which also extends to our external experts.
If you do not wish to fill in our Invention Disclosure Form (IDF) in the first instance, contact Patrik Blomquist who works as a project leader focusing on sourcing activities.

No, even as a post-doc or a guest researcher you are the owner of your own inventions and can contact KIAB. The important factor is who is/are the owner/s of the invention.
 

No, we work with researchers from all Nordic countries.

KIAB has extensive experience of invention development focusing on Life Science projects. In addition, to assure further financing of the companies we help to set up, we have an agreement with Karolinska Development AB which invests in both early and later stage development companies.

To date KIAB has started over 40 companies and concluded more than 30 license agreements.

It doesn’t cost anything to present your invention to us.
When we have screened your invention and agreed to develop your project, we form an agreement in order to finance and drive the commercial development of the project.

KIAB works with projects within pharmaceutical drug development and medical technology.

The Unit for Bioentreprenuership at KI organizes several courses within their own framework as well as for Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship.
Innovationsbron, together with IVA, offers a mentor program, Mentor4Research, intended for researchers. KI has achieved great success within this program with KI researchers winning prizes in both 2007 and 2008 of SEK 100,000 in order to help develop their ideas commercially.

You can apply for grants from both Innovationsbron and Vinnova, while Entrepreneur Stockholm offers contact with business coaches who can help you with the development of your inventions.
